Poly grads put squeeze on uni places

http://news.asiaone.com/News/Education/Story/A1Story20080315-54560.html

That was the headlines.... Just by reading the headlines itself made my blood boil.. are u sure its the poly grads that cause the squeeze? lols.. anyway..tats not important...

what really caught my attention was the mad rush to get a uni place in Uniquely Singapore local university...

There are limited places in NTU, NUS and SMU.... tens and thousands of applicants.... needless to say... most likely a huge majority will be rejected.... And i can tell you.... those who cant get into local uni may be depressed? Its the way we are brought up... we are all being brought up by this education hierarchy which is kindergarden to primary school to secondary school to JC or Poly to Uni... Dropping out of the hierarchy means serious consequences....

Needless to say..the constant reminder from parents, friends, relatives, schools and external environment are sayings that a degree is now a basic... Well..thats their own common beliefs... Its like a social norm thingy.... Im not saying that its wrong to stop at Diploma and head out to work...That its perfectly fine.. becos with a diploma.. u are able to survive tat rat race out there by earning a reasonable amount of salary.... But for an A level student... its really hard for them to find jobs.. cos they dont really possess real skills like engineering, electronice..... perhaps they are ok with admin jobs?

A lady has been applying to get into the local unis for 7 years... its from the article in Straits Times Saturday Edition March 15 2008.. Oh my god... 7 years and still trying... Apparently... getting As in your A levels or poly diplomas doesnt mean that u can get a place... u need to write up your own CV and go through series of interviews before u get a successful admission to the uni... Woah.... fascinating?

Just dont understand the mad rush... Well..ive been through the stage of applying to UNi-s.. but i already know that my results are not cut out to get in any local unis... back then.. i do mind a little... but after getting into SIM and taking this UOL degree... my mindset kinda changed.... I used to think that we must get into local unis... but.. now with this UOL degree...time span is much shorter... its only 3 yrs.. and if u are a poly grad.. u can get into yr 2 str8 away when u are taking a similar degree related to your poly course.. local unis are 4 yrs programme... Time is important to me.. im not young anymore... im like 24 soon and im not earning anything yet.. to be frank.. i dont really feel good living off my parents...

well.. i do hope those A level n poly grad who are hoping for uni spots all the best.. and well.. whether or not u get into local uni.. its not the end of your lives..there are other options...
